Pinterest Marketing Made FUN & Why YOU Should Be Using It THIS Holiday Season
Share
I can’t speak for you, but initially I found marketing on Pinterest intimidating. Having used the platform for recipes, birthday party ideas for my son & home decor inspiration I was left head tilting over how I could start using the same to spread the word about my marketing work or blog.
Here’s the trick: I kept the genuineness of who I am, realized some of my existing boards were already relevant to my target demographic (so they could find me organically), made a few other (less relevant) boards secret so I could keep personally using them & created new boards that were specific to business, but where my work was part of it — not all of it. Here’s a step-by-step you can complete in ONE AFTERNOON, or by doing a little nighttime clicking each night for a week —
-
Set a clear intention — here's mine as an example: I want to use Pinterest to share my content, drive traffic to my website & build a library of articles/ideas that both myself & my community can reference.
-
Hide, consolidate, or reframe your existing boards to make them more searchable + relevant to the people you want to attract. For example, I combined ‘Winter Style’ & ‘Winter Decor’ into ‘Winter in New England’ to better connect with my local audience.
-
I used ChatGPT to research & gather inspiration for new boards that were likely to get me seen by the Pinners I wanted to reach.
-
Then I again used ChatGPT to help me with the board description, searching things like "Write me a 1 sentence Pinterest SEO optimized board description for..." + I revised cover photos & rearranged boards to create a crisp clean appearance.
-
I started pinning my Curate & Co. Blog content where it was applicable. Though one of my boards is solely for my own work, in most cases that meant adding posts like this one to 'Pinterest Marketing', 'Social Media Strategy' & 'Small Business Marketing'.
-
Once my boards were cleaned up & my Pinterest presence finally felt on point, I created a simple pinning schedule. Every day or two, I pick a board, do a quick relevant search & pin 5–10 new articles or photos that feel aligned + genuinely helpful. The goal isn’t to pin everything — it’s to stay consistent and focused on quality, relevant content.
THE 7 DAY RESULTS: When I started the above I was seeing just 47 monthly views. ONE WEEK LATER, that number had climbed 5x & it continues to grow daily. Blog post pins from Curate & Co. gained hundreds of impressions, drove a dozen visits to my website & those pins began performing independently. I was *hands off* growing organically — a HUGE win & super encouraging to keep going! Side note — if you’re in eCommerce, doing the above during the holiday season can help you maximize impressions QUICKLY & reach even more potential customers ASAP before the Winter lull.
Once the above was done, I went through and cleaned up some of my pins — let’s be honest, what you saved 5–10 years ago isn’t always relevant anymore (unless it’s your favorite meatloaf or cocktail recipe... true story you guys 🤣). I also unfollowed some accounts & followed new ones so the content I see when opening the app is inspiring, encouraging & energizing.
